Rationale and objectives
Rationale
The Master of Science Programme in Management is based on the conviction that most professionals in business, not-for-profit, and government organizations have ample skills in their specialization but need more knowledge and skill to effectively lead and manage the human complexities in organizations. The MSM is ideal for managers and other professionals whose jobs require frequent interaction with other people or require leading and supervising others in an organizational setting.
The MSM is particularly suited for those students who already have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a specialized area such as engineering, health or social work and who are keen on broadening their scope with management knowledge and skills.
The MSM is career-oriented, emphasizing the building of management and leadership skills and how to create a 21st century business environment. Students who successfully complete the MSM find jobs that require a broad overview of business processes. These include positions such as Management Trainee, Business Analyst, Consultant, Account Manager and Project Manager.
Objectives
The objective of the MSM is to develop capabilities in the following areas:
1 To recognize and fulfil life-long learning needs and opportunities.
2 To apply appropriate problem solving approaches and management strategies; to improve organizational performance, and to provide an understanding of all aspects of business function to assist in the decision-making process.
3 To communicate effectively in business management setting and managerial role, using written, oral and visual methods;
4 To work independently and in multidisciplinary/multicultural teams, and to accept related responsibilities and professional obligations;
5 To value ethics, integrity and honesty and provide leadership on both their professional and personal life;
6 To act upon and solve managerial problems in all business areas and processes, with knowledge of the behavioural and organizational aspects of management decisions and strategies.
7 To work more effectively with people at all levels in an organization, and to function more effectively in contributing toward the achievement of organizational goals.
